Dear friends,

The United States of America delivered a just and forceful blow to terrorists around the world. The death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was a major victory for the United States. Through our highly-skilled special forces and the leadership of President Trump, we eliminated one of the world’s most-wanted terrorists.  We sent a warning to all international terrorists who dare to threaten the U.S. and our allies.  We have the finest military on earth.  We live in a safer world today because of their hard work.

Here are some things that I have been working on in the U.S. Senate:

Investing in Louisiana’s Coast

Louisiana is one of the top energy producers in the country, and a percentage of revenues generated from energy production is given back to the state to invest in coastal restoration.  Last month, Louisiana received $101 million from energy revenues.  These funds will help support critical coastal restoration in Louisiana.  As Gulf energy production continues to increase, Louisiana must receive a greater revenue share to invest back into the state. I cosponsored the COASTAL Act of 2019 that will adjust revenue shares to give Louisiana a greater share of the profits.

I met with parish presidents and folks from the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority to discuss the COASTAL Act of 2019 and ways we can strengthen Louisiana’s coast.

Fighting to Protect American Innovation in 5G Technology

5G technology is the next major innovation in telecommunications in the United States and across the world.  5G will bring us self-driving cars, remote surgery, improved virtual reality and so much more.  We need to ensure that American companies are at the forefront of this new life-changing technology.  We need to make sure that rural Americans aren’t left behind.  Unfortunately, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is considering selling the 5G-capable radio waves to foreign companies in a closed-door private auction instead of in the usual public auction.  A private auction lacks transparency and can have serious national security implications.  I’m encouraging the FCC to conduct a public auction that will benefit the American taxpayer and will help ensure that the United States is a global leader in 5G technological innovation.  Click here or the photo below to watch my speech on 5G technology.

Election Security

A few years ago, we gave states $380 million to improve election security.  They haven’t spent all of that money.  Yet, some of my colleagues want to give them another $1 billion.  We toss around $1 billion like it’s a nickel.  It’s no wonder we have a $22 trillion deficit.  Click here or below to watch my speech opposing unreasonable spending on election security.

Protecting Jobs During Phasedown of Hydrofluorocarbons

Hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs, are a commonly used coolant in refrigerators and air conditioners.  Around the world, businesses are moving away from using HFCs and transitioning to new coolants that aren’t as disruptive to the environment.  I introduced the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act, which gives the Environmental Protection Agency the ability to regulate the transition from HFCs to better refrigerants.  Thousands of Americans are employed in the production of HFCs, and this legislation will aid in the gradual transition away from HFCs allowing businesses to transition to new technologies and train the workforce in the production of these new technologies.  As we transition away from HFCs, it’s important that the U.S. be at the forefront of this transition and that companies have clear guidelines to follow.
